For me, the coming (?) war against Iraq began in 1999-2000 with George Bush's presidential election campaign. To become president, Bush had to request a lot of money and favors; this war seems to serve as part of Bush's debt repayment program.

In November, 2000, I visited Florida, and documented the detritus of the election recount -- the tape CNN used to mark its position outside a ballot- counting station, a carpet and wires used at a hotel press conference: leftovers of that which, in hindsight, seem to have pointed us towards war.
